Electronic Fundamentals & Sensor Diagnosis

Vehicle electronic systems continue to grow in complexity by the day. The ability for technicians to efficiently diagnose sensors and electrical faults in the modern vehicle is greatly enhanced by a thorough understanding of electrical and electronic fundamentals. The number of components used today is continuously increasing, with dozens of sensors integrated into the various vehicle control systems. You will understand, test and diagnose components applied to modern vehicle systems.

Objectives of this training course:

  • Accurately, efficiently and confidently test and diagnose the various sensors discussed
  • Identify common electronic components and use them in practical circuits
  • Carry out test procedures using voltage, resistance and current measurement
  • Efficient use of available test equipment for diagnosis, from test lights to oscilloscopes
  • Practical tests and hints for locating sensor and harness faults
  • Use the knowledge gained on the functioning of electronic devices to confirm components requiring replacement or repair where appropriate

Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Systems

The increasing number of hybrid and electric vehicles on our roads requires all workshops to have some understanding of the key components and vehicle architecture. As with any high voltage system, safe servicing procedures are also essential.

Objectives of this training course:

  • Identify high voltage components and the dangers to staff they present
  • Make a hybrid or electric vehicle safe to work on so that routine service procedures can be safely completed
  • Understand and identify the different types of hybrid system and drives available
  • Understand and identify the difference in battery technology
  • Identify the correct test equipment to use for a particular situation including high voltage testing

KTS/ESI Operation

Effective use of the KTS in conjunction with ESI[tronic] software and CAS[plus] functionality maximising the use of the KTS for improved fault diagnosis on the vehicle.

Emphasis will also be placed on the efficient sourcing of information using ESI[tronic] and its value as a standalone workshop tool.

Objectives of this training course:

  • Maximising the efficiency of your diagnosis using the KTS
  • Using oscilloscope and multimeter functions
  • Accessing, recording and analysing live data traces
  • Referencing technical instructions (SIS), parts diagrams and component fitment lists
  • Linking scanned data into your repair information (CAS)
  • Accessing common fault data base and other online features
  • Producing customer diagnostic reports

Common Rail System Diagnosis

This comprehensive training program provides an in-depth and detailed description of the construction, operation and diagnosis of common rail diesel systems, as fitted to most modern-day diesel vehicles.

Objectives of this training course:

  • Understanding hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Implication of faults on vehicle behaviour
  • Emissions systems
  • Diagnostic tips and hints
  • Interpreting scan tool and oscilloscope date
